I am currently in my first year as the media specialist at East Jackson Middle School. During my 14 years in education, I have taught 8th grade Earth Science and Georgia History. EDIT 6150 has been a pleasurable and informative experience.

word project / power point / cognitive tool
I think Word has become an integral part in the daily lives of many people. This being the case, people forget what a powerful and fun tool this program can be. It is extrememly versitile and has many user options. This assignment was the easiest for me. I used the Word Project as an opportunity to design a luncheon invitation for our faculty luncheon at work.
This project was not too complicated. I learned a great deal about the various options inside PowerPoint. Sound effects, animation, and action buttons all improved this hypermedia constructed piece. My powerpoint is about Atlases. As a new media specialist, I am looking for interesting ways to teach my students about the various reference materials. Hopefully, this will PowerPoint give a good overview of what they need to know.
The Cognitive Tool assignment was a challenge for me as a media specialist. I wanted to do something that was meaningful and useful. Therefore, I teamed up with the Gifted teacher at our school who was in the midst of a unit on the importance of recycling. She wanted to post the initial results of their research after the first week. I volunteered to help with this task, thus this result. A short lesson plan of what they were doing is included.
The idea of a webquest was all new to me. I had never had kids do a webquest before, but I think they would really enjoy this type of lesson. I teamed up with the Ga. History teacher at our school and we came up with the idea for the webquest I created. My Webquest is based upon all the exciting regions one can visit in the great state of Georgia!
The technology that had to use to complete this project was, at times, frustrating. However, I learned a great deal about Dreamweaver and would reccommend this software to anyone. I feel like I truly accomplished something throughout this class. I am looking forward to using this webquest with our students at East Jackson Middle.
One piece of advice: Keep your web structure the same in the local and the remote.
I decided to design a lesson plan and power point game to go along with my webquest. This project was a challenge and is the first PowerPoint game I have ever designed or had students design.I was surprised at the amount of time this takes to complete. It is based on famous Georgia places, and should be very useful for the Ga. History students at East Jackson Middle.
